Welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage !

The Early Years (Nursery and Reception) is where our children begin to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding, creating a firm foundation for learning which they build upon as they move up the school. Our children are nurtured and supported to develop the characteristics of effective learning: playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically.

Our curriculum is split into the prime areas: personal, social and emotional development, communication and language and physical development which then feed into the specific areas of learning: literacy, maths, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

The teachers across the early years provide a stimulating and enriching learning environment inclusive of all children, where they can explore, experiment and create through well planned, play based activities and experiences which reflect their diverse needs and interests in partnership with parents and carers.

Phonics in Foundation Stage

In Foundation Stage phonics is taught daily. We follow the Letters and Sounds scheme of work.

Children start with Phonics in Nursery and continue to develop their skills during Reception .

Reading Packs

In Foundation Stage children take a reading book home each week.  This can be read to them by an adult, and children can be encouraged to join in with the words, describe  what they can see in the pictures and talk about the story.

Reception children will also bring home a reading book each week which is for them to read to parents and carers, this will be linked to their phonics learning and will give children the opportunity to practice their reading skills at home.

Please bring reading packs in every day.
